Our Team

Abubakar Garba

I am a trained architect from Yola, Nigeria and earned my B.Arch Degree from Canadian University Dubai in 2019. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Development and Emergency Practice with CENDEP at Oxford Brookes University. I have worked on a number of projects that seek to improve relations between countries for the sake of mutual development. I enjoy volunteering and challenges that allow me to learn. I believe it is the fundamental duty of every individual to strive towards designing a better world for all humanity. Thus my interest in CENDEP and its remarkable array of activities.

Aliah Aziz

I am a first year MArchD student, specializing in Development and Emergency Practice. I completed my BSc in Architecture from MARA University of Technology (Malaysia) in 2019, worked for a year in a firm and decided to further my studies here in Brookes. I joined the festival to learn more about human rights and its impact and importance across the world.

Angus Stanley

I am a Year 1 MArchD student, specialising in Development and Emergency Practice. I completed my undergraduate studies at the Glasgow School of Art where I worked on a number of community projects focusing on community consultation, participation and youth work.

Anna Powell

I am currently studying at Oxford Brookes completing an MA in Development and Emergency Practice. I am excited to be a part of the festival as I am passionate about seeking justice and being an advocate for change.

Charlotte Clifford

I am a master’s student at Oxford Brookes studying Development and Emergency Practice. I completed my BA in Geography from Swansea University in 2018. Since then, I have worked in marketing, volunteered in the Calais refugee camps and travelled. I decided to take part in the festival because I am committed to advocating for human rights and being a catalyst for positive change. 

EL Laskar

I am the festival coordinator and have spent the last 20 years dedicated to environmental and humanitarian causes. My focus has been on sustainable fashion and peace building. I am also the  National Coordinator of Creators of Peace UK and the Treasurer for the Oxford Fair Trade Coalition. 

Emily Brierley​

I am a third year film student at Oxford Brookes. I love film and television, seeing it as a way for people to express themselves. Joining the festival was a no brainer for me, I have always been passionate about Human Rights and see this as an opportunity to advocate for people who don’t have a voice, while expanding my own knowledge. ​

 Emily Warren

I am a Master’s student at Brookes studying Development and Emergency Practice. I also studied at Brookes in 2019 for a BA in Geography and International Relations, after which I took a year out to work at World Vision UK – an international children’s charity. During my time at Brookes I got the opportunity to go to Lesbos to volunteer in Camp Moria which added to my interest in human rights. I joined the festival because I am passionate about giving people a voice, serving, and being a catalyst for change.

Harikrishnan Premprakash​

I am a final year Architecture student specializing in Sustainable Architecture and my work revolves around using the elements of nature to create tranquil environments that respond to its context. I am passionate about injustice that stems from crony capitalism and hope to bring about a more equitable world where the needs of the many are not outweighed by the needs of a few. My particular area of interest is the relationship between communities in South East Asia. I am also interested in the impact of western intervention in emerging economies that have weak labour protection laws who are often exploited due to the societal structure within those countries.

Kasia Kuchta ​

My name is Kasia and I am studying MA Development and Emergency Practice at Oxford Brookes University. Five years ago, I left Poland, my home country, to study psychology and criminology in Wales. I am passionate about travelling, basketball and buying way too many books in second-hand stores. The decision to join the Human Rights Festival came naturally to me, as I believe the festival creates an opportunity to advocate for groups that are still fighting for their basic rights. Together we can ignite a positive change and I am determined to be a part of it.

Lucie Dick

I am a Year 2 Masters of Architecture Student. Last year I specialised in Development and Emergency Practice, where my love and passion for human rights blossomed. My key interests within Human Rights are around disabilities, propaganda within the media and Social Media. This year I have found my work in the design studio is influencing my work at the festival and vice versa. Within this year's festival I am working on the “We need you” podcast with Victoria. ​

I’m currently a third year BA Film student at Oxford Brookes. In my free time I try to write/produce music and tell stories through what I make. I joined the festival to learn more about human rights. I wanted to help people that struggle to make their voice heard and need a safe space to do so.

​Ren Bennett

I’m currently a third-year film student here at Oxford Brookes.  I joined the festival because I feel like it aligns with my desire to elevate the voices of marginalised people all across the world. I’ve always had an interest in helping people and using my voice to add to the collective calling for change with a focus on building a sustainable future and advocating for racialised people and the LGBTQ+ community.

​I’m currently a third-year BA film student at Oxford Brookes. I fell in love with film mainly because it was a tool that could tell anyone's story. I joined the festival because I wanted to help people who feel like they don’t have a voice and hopefully bring their stories to light.

Sophy Botsford​

I completed my BSc in Architecture at the University of Reading in summer 2019. Losing my job at the start of Covid-19 gave me a chance to contemplate my future and make the decision to continue my architecture studies and specialise in Development and Emergency practice. For me, being a part of the Human Rights Festival is allowing me to explore my passion for humanitarian work and be an advocate for change.

Victoria Greenwood

I am currently studying for an MA in Human Rights, Emergencies and Development at Oxford Brookes. My career started in charity fundraising and since then I have worked in nonprofit organisations and have experience of partnerships, governance, and strategic planning.  This Masters course fulfils a long-held ambition to understand and learn more about human development, humanitarian work, and rights advocacy. I am particularly interested in how power holders and their leadership impacts on the lives and rights of women and young people.  I am also passionate about the plight of refugees and vulnerable people coping with already disrupted lives.  

David Ingram

PODCAST VOLUNTEER CONSULTANT FOR TEAM. David Ingram is a former student of Oxford Brookes University, attaining his BA degree in Film in 2019 and recently completing his MA in Film Studies: Popular Cinema. David has gone on to work on a variety of independent film projects, alongside his new venture Take 97: A Film Podcast which launched earlier this year.
